Coyotes open regular season

The Okanagan College Coyotes baseball team hosts the University of Calgary Dinos and Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs this weekend.

The Coyotes kick off the 2015 Canadian College Baseball Conference regular season, Friday, 6 p.m., versus UofC, at Elks Stadium.

"We are excited to start conference play, we have been planning and working extremely hard to get to this Friday and push for a conference championship," says head coach Geoff White.

The Coyotes are riding a 13-game home winning streak.

"It has been nice to be at home and to be playing solid baseball, and having great weather always helps," adds White. "We still are not content though and constantly working to be better. We know that the regular season is going to be a battle, so we are preparing."

On Saturday, the Coyotes face the Dinos at noon, then the Dinos play the Dawgs at 3 p.m. and the Coyotes play the Dawgs at 6 p.m.

Sunday's game have UofC versus PBA at 10 a.m. and the Coyotes versus PBA at 1 p.m.

The Coyotes have been led by newcomer Tony Olson, a freshman infielder from Edmonton who is hitting at a tremendous .429 clip in the preseason, along with outfielder Brandon Graham of Prince George, hitting .419, and senior infielder Brennan Reidy of Moose Jaw at .371.

Nine more players hitting above .300.

"Top to bottom in our lineup, we have had different guys contribute in a variety of ways, and it's one of the reasons we have had recent success," says White.
