Newest Rocket nets winner

Gage Quinney's first goal in a Kelowna Rockets uniform stood up as the game winner Friday as the Kelowna Rockets doubled the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2.

It was the Rockets second win in a row on their five game pre-Christmas Alberta road swing.

Quinney's goal came at 13:25 of the third period and gave the Rockets a two goal cushion.

They would need it as the Tigers clawed their way back to within one a few moments later.

Quinney was playing his first game with the Rockets after being acquired from the Prince Albert Raiders in a deal that also brought defenceman Josh Morrissey to the Rockets.

Kelowna sent Jesse Lees and Austin Glover the other way in the deal.

Tyson Baillie scored twice for the Rockets with Justin Kirkland adding the other.

The teams were tied 1-1 heading into the third period before Baillie put the Rockets up for good just 58 seconds into the final frame.

Baillie's second of the night came in the final minute with the Tigers net empty for an extra attacker.

Jackson Whistle stopped 32 shots for his 20th win of the season.

Kelowna played Friday with just 19 skaters as Morrissey, Madison Bowey and Rourke Chartier are all in Toronto for the World Junior selection camp.

The Rockets road trip continues with games in Calgary Sunday, Edmonton Tuesday and Red Deer Wednesday.
