Rockets streak grows to 9

It seems nothing can top the Kelowna Rockets.

Slow start...no problem. Mid game letdown...no problem.

The Rockets improved their improbably start to the season to 9-0-0-0 Wednesday kicking off a three game road trip with a 6-4 win in Kamloops.

Rourke Chartier and Austin Glover each scored twice while Riley Stadel and Tyrell Goulbourne also lit the lamp for the Rockets.

Nick Merkley picked up three assists giving him a team leading 18 points on the season while Tyson Baillie and Justin Kirkland added two helpers each.

The Rockets, who gave up the opening goal for the third time in four games, broke open a 2-2 tie with three unanswered goals to stake themselves to a 5-2 lead.

The Blazers made it interesting with two late tallies before Chartier's second of the night into an empty net with 36 second left sealed it.

Collin Shirley on a shorthanded penalty shot, Cole Ully with two and Jake Kryski replied for the Blazers who dropped their second in a row.

The power-play, which has gone silent the past few games was again key for the Rockets.

Kelowna scored three times with the man advantage while holding the Blazers to on goal on their four opportunities.

Jackson Whistle turned aside 35 shots to earn his league leading ninth win of the season.

The Rockets will look to extend their winning streak to double digits when they continue their road trip into Spokane Friday and Tri-City Saturday.

Kelowna's next home game is next Wednesday when they entertain the same Tri-City Americans.
