Rockets win pre-season opener

The Kelowna Rockets opened their pre-season  schedule on a winning note Saturday, beating the visiting Kamloops Blazers 5-0 at Prospera Place.

Jackson Whistle stopped all 24 shots that he faced in the Rockets net as the team scored twice in the first period and added three more goals in the second to earn the win.

Whistle, 19, will assume the number one netminding duties this season following the graduation of Jordon Cooke.

Five different Rockets hit the scoresheet as veterans Riley Stadel, Dalton Yorke, Cole Linaker and Joe Gatenby scored along with prospect Jordan Borstmayer.

Kris Schmidli and Austin Glover chipped in with two helpers apiece

The Rockets continue the WHL preseason on Sunday in Vancouver as they travel to play the Giants.

Kelowna has one more home exhibition game Sept. 13 against the Royals before opening the WHL regular season at Prospera Place Sept. 20 vs. Kamloops.
