Kelowna Chiefs add new coaches

Two new faces will join Kelowna Chiefs head coach Jason Tansem behind the bench for the upcoming KIJHL season.

The Chiefs would like to welcome Assistant Coaches Floyd Ryan and Matthew Sheeran.  They will both be at Chiefs Main Camp on Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26.

“I’m excited to stay a part of hockey now that I’m done playing,” says Sheeran.  “I’m really looking forward to being a part of the game from the other side as a staff member.  I feel like I‘ve joined a good club to mold good habits into a possible future career.”  Sheeran, who is 21-years of age, has both Jr. A and Jr. B playing experience.

“I am very excited to be part of the Chiefs organization.  The vision, direction and key objectives of the ownership group and Head Coach Tansem is focused and supports my philosophy of the importance of player development and game fundamentals in a fun and positive team environment,” says Ryan.  “The Chiefs organization provides young men with platform and the resources from a group of people that are dedicated to skill development, physical health, nutritional awareness and overall strength and performance as part of their personal growth.  I look forward to working with Tansem and the rest of the group to provide Chiefs fans with a successful 2015 season.”  Ryan has spent more than 30 years coaching and developing players.

Head coach Tansem couldn’t be happier to add the two very solid, fulltime coaches to the program.  “Floyd is a very experienced coach and brings a toolkit that is very seasoned and full of knowledge.  Matt is young, fresh from the game and will be able to give us a different perspective on things both on the ice and in our dressing room.”

“The front office, leadership team and coaching staff are all set and ready to perform,” continues Tansem.  “After what seemed to be a long summer, I am excited for Monday to come and camp to begin.”

Kelowna Chiefs Main Camp runs this Monday and Tuesday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.  Kelowna’s first home exhibition game will be Thursday, August 28 against North Okanagan at 7pm at Rutland Arena.
