The Okanagan College Coyotes concluded their 28 game regular season over the weekend and earned a split.
Saturday afternoon Marcus Drewry improved to 5-0 as the Yotes hung on for a 6-5 win over the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack. Drewry threw six solid innings, allowing two unearned runs, scattering six hits while striking out six.
Saturday night the Coyotes matched up with the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners. The clubs each traded a four run inning, the Coyotes in the bottom of the third, and the Mariners in the top of the fifth.
The teams each scored a run in the eighth, setting the tables for extra innings.
In the top of the 11th the flood gates opened and the Mariners scored seven runs, securing a 12-5 victory.
On Sunday the Coyotes matched up with the same two teams. Prior to the morning game the Coyotes honoured senior Garrett Wiese playing in his final regular season games.
Wiese has started all but four games over the course of his four years in the program.
For the second consecutive day the Coyotes and Mariners went to extra innings and the Mariners claimed a 3-2 victory scoring in the top of the 10th off reliever Taylor Thomas.
Then the final game of the regular season against the Wolfpack, Joel Lamont earned a complete game shutout as the Coyotes claimed a 1-0 victory in a rain shorted game. He allowed two hits and struck out seven.
Fittingly, Wiese scored the winning run in his final regular season game.
The Coyotes will travel to Lethbridge on Wednesday in preparation for the championship tournament.
