OK Rockets tie opener

The Okanagan Rockets rallied from two goals down Monday to earn a 3-3 tie with Chateauguay, QC, in the opening game for both clubs at the Telus Cup Canadian Midget Hockey Championship.

Chateauguay controlled much of the opening 20 minutes and jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead.

The Rockets got that back in the dying seconds when Brett Young scored on a shorthanded breakaway.

Down 3-1 late in the second, Tanner Wishnowski through a puck on net that managed to sneak past the Chateauguay net minder to cut the deficit to one heading into the final 20 minutes.

The Rockets dominated the third and were finally rewarded when Liam Finlay notched the equalizer with 7:56 remaining.

Despite some late pressure, the Rockets were unable to find the go ahead marker and the two clubs settled for the 3-3 tie.

The Rockets will try to find the win column when they take on the host Moose Jaw Generals Tuesday night.
