OK Rockets off to Telus Cup

The Okanagan Rockets will be playing for a national championship.

For the first time in franchise history, the Rockets will play for the TELUS Cup after winning the Pacific Regional championship over the weekend in Red Deer.

The Rockets captured the title with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs Sunday afternoon in game three of the best-of-three final.

Liam Finlay scored the overtime winner a little more than five minutes into the extra period.

The Rockets won the opener 3-1 Friday, but dropped the second game 7-1 Saturday forcing Sunday's winner take all third game.

Tyson Jost opened the scoring for the Rockets Sunday, however, two Red Deer goals in the second gave the hosts a 2-1 lead entering the final period.

Tanner Browne's shot from the point tied it in the third setting the stage for Finlay's winner.

The Okanagan Rockets will now represent the Pacific at the 2014 TELUS Cup, April 21 – 27, 2014 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
