Play On! teams with Rockets

Hockey Night in Canada's Play On! has teamed up with the Kelowna Community Food Bank and the Kelowna Rockets.

Play On!, Canada's largest sports festival is returning to Kelowna May 24 and 25.

Teams wanting to compete in the outdoor street hockey festival can earn their way into the event during Friday's Kelowna Rockets/Tri-City Americans playoff game at Prospera Place.

All you have to do is donate at least three pounds of food or $5 to the Kelowna Community Food Bank and you will be entered into a draw to take part in the Play On! on-ice contest during the second period intermission of Friday's game.

Two contestants will be drawn Friday afternoon with the third after the first period intermission.

The winning shooter will receive a free team entry into Play On!.

Donations can be dropped off by 3 p.m. at the food bank at 1265 Ellis Street or at the Play On! booth at Prospera Place before 8 p.m.

Three pounds of food could include three cans of fruit or vegetables, four cans of soup, six boxes of Kraft Dinner or two jars of peanut butter.

The Kelowna Community Food Bank serves over 40,000 people annually in Kelowna, nearly 40 per cent of whom are children under the age of 16.
