Slo-Pitch Softball is gaining popularity and is growing fast in the Okanagan. It’s a relatively easy, social game that people can play for many years and still improve and be competitive. Many local businesses sponsor company teams for their employees and see this as a fun method of social team building. Slo-Pitch is one of those recreational sports that doesn’t require a high level of personal fitness which makes it a sports option to a wider range of people.

Slo-Pitch National is a Canada wide organization that has been progressive in developing and applying modified rules for the more recreational levels of play, making games more fun and strategic. The big home run hitters are not able to dominate the lower levels of play which makes it a more strategic “place hitting” game. This is an attractive feature of the recreational level of play, which results in increased participation and popularity.

The City of Kelowna Sport & Rec. Summer Slo-Pitch League registration is just around the corner, so it’s time to start rounding up the team, dusting off the equipment, and getting ready to play. The Sport & Rec. Summer Activity Guide has all the details on league nights, divisions, levels of play and fees for the 2007 season. There are many registration options for teams or individuals not yet on a team.

The Sport & Rec. Summer Activity Guide is available May 30 and registration for Slo-Pitch and all other leagues and programs begins June 2.

For more information and to register for this or any other of the many tournaments leagues and programs, contact Sport & Rec. at 469-8800 (Parkinson Rec. Centre) or online at www.sportandreckelowna.ca (link below)
