Summer Beach Volleyball Around the Corner!
For those of you that travel down Lakeshore Rd. past Gyro Park you might have noticed the two new Beach Volleyball Courts recently built by the City of Kelowna Parks Dept. These new courts bring the city’s Beach Volleyball court inventory to seven with four courts at Gyro Park and three courts at City Park.
The Gyro Park courts have always been popular with heavy daytime public use throughout the late spring and summer. The addition of the two new courts will no doubt be very popular with the Volleyball playing general public.
The addition of these courts will also allow for an increase in league size of the popular Summer Recreational Beach Volleyball Leagues offered by the City of Kelowna - Sport & Recreation Dept. These summer leagues are one of the most popular sports leagues held in the summer with 50-60 teams annually participating. League nights are Monday through Thursday and run from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, depending on league size. Sport & Recreation offers a wide variety of league options including Recreational and Competitive levels, Co-ed and Women’s Only leagues, and “Sixes” (6 players per team) and “Triples” leagues. For those of you that are interested in playing, but do not have a full team to register, there is also “Singles” registration in which teams are created from individual registrations.
Spring Leagues are underway now but Summer Leagues are just around the corner. Look for the Summer Beach Volleyball Leagues information in the Summer Activity Guide coming out May 30.
