Summerland ride offer not a threat
The Summerland RCMP have deemed there was no ill intention after identifying and speaking to a motorist who stopped to offer a young boy a ride.
On Tuesday, the Summerland RCMP received a report of a suspicious incident from a local student. The boy informed police that a silver/grey van had pulled up to him, while walking along Dale Meadows Road in Summerland, and he was asked if he wanted a ride.
The boy refused and the vehicle drove away. The vehicle was driven by an older male, who was alone at the time.
Police investigated the incident and located the driver of the vehicle. The driver was spoken to, and said he had offered the student a drive, as he noticed the boy was visibly cold.
The Summerland RCMP do not believe this incident is linked to the recent similar incidents in Penticton.
Earlier this month, the Penticton RCMP reported they were on the lookout for a couple in a brown Ford truck, after two 10-year-old boys tobogganing at Columbia Park Elementary School off of Hatfield Avenue were approached by a man and told to get in the vehicle.
