Border crossing lover arrested on roof

It would seem love doesn't conquer all - especially the long arm of the law.

Two men, denied access into Canada at the Osoyoos border crossing were apprehended in the South Okanagan border town after sneaking across on foot.

Osoyoos RCMP Cpl. Jason Bayda, says one of the men was supposed to meet his girlfriend in Osoyoos, however, he and a second male were turned away at the border.

Early the next morning the two men and a dog snuck across the border and into Osoyoos, for their scheduled rendezvous.

"We got a call just after 8 in the morning that two males had been spotted in downtown Osoyoos," says Bayda.

"We tried to apprehend them to speak with them but they fled on us and subsequently went across rooftops of houses and through backyards."

Bayda says one of the men was apprehended on top of one of the roofs.

"It was risky for our member any time you are on an elevated area. Fortunately for our member, the subject was very cooperative once he was apprehended."

Despite efforts from Osoyoos and Oliver RCMP, Border Patrol members and a police dog, the second man was able to evade authorities.

Bayda says with the assistance of the public he was apprehended a few hours later.

Both men have been returned to the United States.

The female in question who had returned to Canada after her US visa had expired remains in Canada.

The pair were apparently going to meet with her and leave for Mexico.
