Ticketed after head-on crash

The driver of a car that clipped a trailer and then crossed the yellow line and crashed head-on with another car in Salmon Arm Friday was ticketed for "driving without consideration."

The incident happened at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 on the Trans-Canada Highway and Second Nations Road, said Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP in a release.

Highway 1 now open

"An eastbound Volkswagen car crossed the centre line and entered the westbound lanes with no reported attempt to correct back into the eastbound lanes," West said. "The Volkswagen car then hit a trailer towed by a westbound pick-up truck. The truck and trailer were able to stop up the highway safely but the Volkswagen carried on and had a head-on collision with a westbound Honda."

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Shuswap Lakes General Hospital by ambulance and the passenger was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital, RCMP said. The driver of the westbound Honda and one of the two passengers were airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital while the second passenger in the Honda was transported to Shuswap Lakes General Hospital by ambulance.

Royal Inland Hospital said the patients who were airlifted to them were in stable condition on Monday while a child from the westbound Honda was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
