'Bee' part of the solution

No bees, no food.

It is a mantra concerned citizens have been saying for years and as bee populations in North American dramatically decline, saving the yellow and black insects is taking on a new urgency.

Anyone interested in helping restore bee populations can take a beekeeping course at a Shuswap farm.

Sweetacre Apiaries is offering The Bee-ginners Bee Course April 14-15.

According to the Sweetacre website, Saturday will be a full day going over equipment, placement, bee biology, basic management. As well as swarming, diseases and pests. Sunday will consist of summer management, honey removal wintering hives.

More than 200 people have taken the course over the years.

The cost is $275 per person and includes lunches and manuals.
