Flagger hit by full beer can

As if flaggers do not have enough dangers to worry about, now they are being assaulted with beer cans.

Sicamous RCMP are seeking public assistance at identifying a suspect driver who allegedly threw a beer can at a flag person on Highway 1 on Monday.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said on Feb. 26 shortly after 9 a.m., an employee of a flagging crew was assaulted when someone from a passing vehicle threw a full can of beer, striking him in the head.

“The male victim was busy setting up a cautionary sign on Highway 1 west of Sicamous when he was struck by the can of beer. The victim was wearing a hard hat and glasses at the time of the assault which were both knocked off of his head. The hard hat prevented the victim from any significant injury,” said Moskaluk.

The victim was unable to identify the make or specific model of the vehicle, describing it only as a small black car without a front license plate.

“This incident illustrates the danger that highway flaggers face in their duties. The flagger could have easily been seriously injured by the dangerous and senseless actions of the person responsible for this assault,” said Moskaluk.

Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
