Reserve chute saves life

UPDATE: 8:30 p.m.

A Facebook statement from Skydive Salmon Arm reported that a parachutist injured in a jump Sunday was expected to make a full recovery.

"I would like to let you know that one of our highly experienced jumpers was injured today," wrote Rick Scott of Skydive Salmon Arm. "He had a main parachute malfunction but his reserve parachute saved his life, however he sustained a broken pelvis from a hard landing.
"He was taken to hospital in Kelowna and is expected to have a full recovery. Thanks for your concern."


ORIGINAL STORY 1:30 p.m.

A parachutist is believed to have been injured after falling near the runway at the Salmon Arm Airport with a partially opened chute.

The incident occurred during the noon hour.

A BC Ambulance helicopter was called to the scene.

A spokesperson at Salmon Arm Skydive refused to comment on the incident.
