Get set for Roots & Blues

Sales have been brisk for Salmon Arm's annual Roots & Blues festival which takes place Aug. 19-21.

“Ticket sales have been fantastic. The best since 2010,” said Peter North, the festival's artistic director. “It depends on the weather but we would love to see 8,500 people here a day over the three days.”

North said festival organizers faced some difficulties early on in the process of hiring bands for this year's event.

“Given the Canadian dollar plummetting last August, we lost some great acts really early on,” North explained. “We wanted a really solid core.”

“It took us three years to get Steve Earl.”

Earl, an American rock, country and folk singer-songwriter is travelling this year with friend, Shawn Colvin. The two are headlining the festival.

While some U.S. acts were lost because of the low dollar, North is pleased with those acts who've agreed to perform.

“We're bringing in some really cool artists from the states to work with Canadian artists. We've also got a fantastic reggae band from Columbia and some good musicians from the U.K.”
