The South Okanagan Rehab Centre for Owls had an easy spring with not too many birds coming in, in need of care.
This is a good thing!
Two orphaned Great horned owls that were rescued in separate regions, are growing fast and doing well.
Then there was a rash of Greathorned owls all with very serious injuries, none of which made it.
This week we have seen an Osprey which unfortunately did not survive the trauma of a wing injury, two young Redtail hawks which are doing just fine and enjoying all the food they can eat and a young Merlin that was rescued after it ended up in a swimming pool in Kelowna is putting on weigh.
A Long-eared owl chick is doing fine after it was rescued from the Inkameep Vineyards in Oliver today.
Sometimes injures that the birds have do not seem that serious, then the bird dies suddenly.
Some problems are just beyond the knowledge we have, but we do our best to make the birds feel comfortable with as little stress as possible and give them as natural a diet as we can.
Please remember SORCO with your financial support as our operational funds are at a low point at present.
Thank you!
Sherri Klein - Founder and Office Manger for the South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls.
