Pills, pills and more pills!

We live in a pill poppin’ world don’t we? Yes we do. There are pills for everything and anything. People stuff pills down their gullet like a running faucet.

Don’t go ape over me quite yet. I understand there is a place for many of the prescription meds taken today. However, I believe there is a large population of people that just don’t get it. For those who do get it but choose not to do anything about it, well, I have a favorite word in my little fitness world that I would like to share with all of you: “Neglect”. Isn’t that an appropriate word for today's unhealthy people?

Many years ago a news story was published stating that 80 percent of all human ailments could be avoided with proper nutrition. I’m sure that meant including regular exercise but that’s not what was stated. 80 PERCENT! Hey, cut that in half and imagine how different our lives would be right now. Is there a person that you wish was still alive today? Did they die quite young? Think of the money that could be saved in health costs. Can you say billions? Let's look at Canada as an example. I love this country. I have lived here my entire life. Living in Canada gives all of us the freedom and the means to keep our bodies healthy from day one! Therefore, for those of you who choose to “neglect” your health for any reason, and especially for long periods of time during the course of your life, you are potentially setting yourself up for early health problems and maybe a life of pill poppin’.

Here’s a great story. I have worked with many clients struggling with health issues. Most commonly: High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) and Type 2 Diabetes. Almost ALWAYS, they are overweight. One client in particular that comes to mind was a woman, who at the time of our first meeting, was about 75 lbs overweight (my opinion). Prior to starting her fitness program, she was extremely sedentary, followed no fitness regimen, poor diet, and consumed some pretty heavy dosages of meds for hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes. After 12 months of weekly strength training and cardio, she was able to eliminate the meds for Diabetes and reduce the meds for hypertension by half. Oh ya, the cool part - she dropped over 50 lbs of useless body weight. Can you say “life changing”!

Do you know anyone at this point of their life? How about you? Your life WILL be different forever if you stop many or all of your prescription medications (if you are able) and get your body weight down to a healthy number. I don’t care if you’re big boned, small boned, tall, short, wide. It makes no difference. Get rid of that jiggly crap! A strong, lean body requires regular strength training and cardio FOREVER! Done correctly, your “fat” loss will be permanent. No sniveling. Excuses are for the weak. Do not look for ANYONE to look after YOUR body either. Most people's lives are in overload mode so the last thing they worry about is your fat body. The great news for you is I’ll help you out. Give me shout!

Please don’t email about how her weight loss could be fat weight, or water weight, or muscle loss. That’s not the story here. I’ll cover specifics another time. Hey, try a few pills in the form of “food supplements”. I’ll cover that topic next time. Cheers!
