Everyone is an expert!

Does it not strike you as odd the number of people who are always telling you what you should and shouldn’t eat? Who are these so-called “experts”?

In my line of work I make many suggestions in regards to exercise and diet and I feel that after 30 years of experience I have some credibility. I don’t think a day goes by when I make a nutrition or exercise suggestion that someone always has a counter opinion. Where does that come from? That’s almost as bad as the 20 handicap golfer who constantly is making suggestions to all his buddies about the “end all, be all” golf tip of the day.

Listen people, in my world, you had better be eating the right foods and following a pretty amazing workout regimen for many years to have even a smidgen of credibility these days. EVERYONE is an expert. Who needs to read a book anymore? Simply flag down the nearest person in the mall and ask them their top five fat burning foods. They probably watched the latest episode of Oprah or Dr. Oz and now everyone must avoid rice, beef, potatoes, oatmeal, or eggs. Oh, but go ahead and consume a “moderate” amount of red wine. But who limits it to only one glass? The experts “say” that in moderation red wine benefits the body. Compared to what? Well it’s certainly better than a Kit Kat bar. Drink your wine and enjoy it for what it is, but take it off your “healthy” food list. If you’re drinking wine on a regular basis, it’s my experience you probably aren’t following a very balanced and proper nutrition plan. Well, at least not every day.

The Atkins Diet, the Pritikin Diet, the Southbeach Diet, the Watermelon Diet, the Pop Tart Diet. Okay, I made up the last one but it’s probably just as effective with twice the enjoyment. If you’re following a very low calorie “DIET” plan, give yourself a free slap upside the brain bucket with a rubber chicken! Stop destroying your health and your ability to burn fat or feed muscle. Enough said.

Current research has dispelled all the crazy concoctions of extreme highs and lows of carbohydrates and proteins and stated that they don’t make a difference! In other words, go back to the old school ways of eating with clean, unprocessed foods. Good health has ALWAYS worked that way. Stop analyzing all the wacky diet programs on the market. We are completely past that in this day and age.

Nutrition guidelines:

  • Eat 4-5 equal calorie meals per day. Eat, digest and don’t eat until the next meal.
  • Eat every 3-4 hours.
  • Drink an additional glass of WATER between each meal.
  • Eat unprocessed food as often as you can at those mealtimes. DO IT!
  • No dieting. DO YOU GET THAT?
  • Rice, potatoes, pasta, beef, cheese, breads (to name a few) are NOT THE PROBLEM!
  • Starving yourself all day and/or stuffing your face IS THE PROBLEM!

    Exercise Guidelines:

  • Strengthen your entire body. Weight training is most effective.
  • Exercise every day if you can. Don’t have time? It sucks to be you! If you don’t care, I don’t care.
  • Adding weight training to a cardio regimen yields greater fat loss than cardio alone. Believe it!
  • Don’t be a wimp. Yes, you heard me. Suck it up and push yourself. Nobody likes a whiner.
  • Speed up your gym sessions. Reduce rest periods. Stop yappin’ unless your liftin’.
  • Be happy. Be positive. Socialize. Enjoy your time. ASK QUESTIONS. Learn new exercises.
