If you're driving through Summerland  you can now pull over and connect directly to the internet.

To celebrate 'Small Business Week' in BC, the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism has established the province's first roadside WiFi hotspot.

The WiFi hotspot was launched earlier this week at the tourist information kiosk located at the Trout Creek pullout.

The system has the blessing of the Ministry of Transportation and is supported by the District of Summerland with funding support from Shaw Cable.

The roadside WiFi site offers travelers a safe area to stop and access local information including maps, services and attractions.

"The Summerland Chamber of Commerce works diligently to promote Summerland as an innovative business community," says Chamber president, Arlene Fenrich.

"Visitor services are a gateway to the community so by providing this new WiFi location, we have the opportunity to showcase our members and draw people off the highway into our inviting community."

Thew new system is the first of its kind in BC and is an extension of the Summerland Chamber's current free WiFi service at the Visitor Centre on Highway 97.
