Canada's sports minister says the federal government has no immediate plans to provide more money for Olympians.
Stephen Owen, minister of state for sport, said Ottawa instead should consider giving the provinces more money to develop sports at the school level.
Owen made the comments after International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge revealed he intends to visit Canada later this year to push for increased funding of amateur sport from the federal and provincial governments.
Canada finished the Athens Games with 12 medals, the country's worst Olympic performance since the 1988 Games in Seoul where it won 10 medals.
