The provincial government has announced plans to counteract the impact the U.S. Patriot Act may have on our privacy.
Geoff Plant, B.C.'s attorney general, says that the province will introduce legislation this fall to forbid Canadian subsidiaries of American companies from handing over private information to American law enforcement agencies.
Under the Patriot Act, the U.S. government can access private company information for homeland security.
This move is seen as a way for the B.C. government to clear the way to outsource the administration of the provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP) to a U.S. company.
