A Penticton rental home was trashed by the tenant and friends on Halloween night, according to the landlord.
The damage to the house at 891 Government Street includes broken windows, spray painted messages such as "Trick treat or smell my feet," and kicked in sections of wall.
"This is shocking and a hardship," said landlord Paul Singla. "It will now be around $15,000 to fix it so it can be rented again."
Singla went to the home around 11 a.m. Friday, after a neighbour called to say the tenants were putting shoes up on the wire.
The tenant said at the time, he was just putting the shoes up for Halloween. When Singla asked for the November rent, the tenant said he would pay it on Monday.
Then, Saturday morning, the same neighbour called again to say windows were broken and the house was damaged.
Singla called the RCMP and an officer came to the house.
Sgt. Rick Dellebuur confirmed the RCMP did respond, but said there was no break-in and it's more of a landlord/tenant matter.
He said the RCMP are not investigating the incident.
Singla wishes more could be done and that the RCMP would pursue it.
"I am 100 per cent it was the tenant, who lived there with his girlfriend, and friends who did the damage," he said. "Another neighbour reported seeing 10 to 14 people there on Friday night wearing black clothing."
