People seeking shelter from the cold can find it tonight at the Cold Snap Inn in Penticton.
The extreme weather shelter will operate at Cheers the Church on Main Street from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
"We don't want people to come to harm due to the elements, so the Cold Snap Inn will open tonight," said Reg Petrie, supervisor of Compass House, a Penticton emergency shelter.
When the temperature hits -10 C, Petrie issues an extreme weather alert.
Information the shelter will be open is then posted at the Soupateria, which provides daily meals to those in need in Penticton.
This is the second year the shelter has been offered at Cheers the Church at 639 Main Street.
In previous years other churches opened their doors on the coldest nights of the year.
Men and women can access the shelter through the back door of the church. Cots are set up in a room with a divider to separate the men from the women.
There are 20 spaces available and a hot supper and breakfast are provided.
It is likely the shelter will be open on Sunday night as well, with the weather expected to remain chilly.
