BC Transit and the city of Penticton are getting into the holiday spirit with free rides on New Year’s Eve after 6:50 p.m.

BC Transit encourages everyone to make the safe and smart choice to ride transit on New Year’s Eve.
That choice is easier than ever with free rides on December 31 from 6:50 p.m. until 3 a.m.

The Night Route will see extended hours and a Party Loop will be added to service the malls, downtown Penticton, both lakes and the community centre.

BC Transit customers should be aware of some holiday schedule changes:

December 31, 2012 – regular weekday schedule, plus free rides from 6:50 p.m. to 3 a.m.

January 1, 2013

In Vernon, there will be regular service today, Dec. 31, and no extended hours. There will be no service on New Year's Day, according to Meribeth Burton, corporate spokesperson for BC Transit.

It is up to municipalities to decide what they will offer, she said.
