Radio Wars: The Sun rises again
Music has displaced talk as the preferred choice for radio listeners in the Penticton area market.
According to figures released by the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (BBM) released this week, 97.1, Sunfm is the number one radio station in the four station Penticton radio market.
While every radio station programs to a different demographic be it females, males, younger adults or older, Castanet has always used a broad range of measurement, adults 18 to 64.
Numbers also take into account a full week of listening.
Using these figures, Sunfm grabbed nearly a quarter of the listening audience in Penticton with a 24.5 share of the market.
That compares to a 21.2 share in the fall of 2011.
CBC 1, which was number one a year ago, slipped down to number two with a 20.8 share, a drop of more than two points.
Country 100.7, under the new ownership of Nova Scotia based Newcap took over the number three spot with an 18.7 share, an increase of four-and-a-half points over a year ago.
Despite increasing its market share by a half point, EZ Rock AM800 slipped to fourth in the market with a 16.0 share.
BBM measures radio tuning in Penticton every fall.
