Pistoleras roll to victory

The South Okanagan Roller Derby Association’s Penticton Pistoleras skated to victory in their final home game of the season with a 125 -110 victory over the Tar Sand Betties on Saturday night at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

It was a tight bout all night long as the visitors from Fort McMurray gained the early edge over the home side, but a jammer penalty by the Betties landed RuckusDoll of the Pistoleras a powerjam giving Penticton their first lead of the night.

That lead would change hands several more times as a tight battle ensued between the two teams before the Pistoleras went into halftime up 62-59.

The second half was action-packed with fast jams, hard hits, and lots of penalties. The Fort McMurray Betties took repeated trips to the penalty box, but solid defensive walls kept Penticton from capitalizing.

Finally, the Pistoleras used their own strong defence to keep the Betties at bay and in the final minutes, pulled ahead with another powerjam and cruised to victory.

The Pistoleras final game of the season will be Dec. 1 in Chilliwack against NWO, and the team would like to thank the fans, sponsor’s, volunteers, ref’s and everyone that supported them throughout their first season in Penticton.

New skaters, refs and volunteers are always welcome and can visit the association's website to see how to get involved.
