There is just something about cookies that make them almost impossible to refuse.

For Boyd Autobody and Glass, this couldn’t be truer, as they bought 700 boxes of Girl Guide cookies from two Penticton guides last week.

The Okanagan company handed a large cardboard $3,500 cheque to sisters Keira (8) and Mackenzie Polner (6) of Penticton Oct. 10.

Although it only took two girls to sell the cookies, it took an entire team of volunteers to deliver some 89 cases of the chocolaty mint rounds to Boyd.

“We took all the cases there with our truck and dropped them off with the girls,” says the mother Laura Polner. “It was a team effort getting them all here.”

Laura adds that Keira has been the top cookie seller among her group of guides for three straight years.

“By bringing their vehicles to Boyd, our customers allowed us to buy $3,500 worth of cookies,” explains Boyd spokesperson Heather Harrison. “Boyd Autobody has a program called the ‘Community Rewards Program’… we take a portion of everyone’s repair bill, and we give it back to the community.”

Boyd will give a box of cookies to each customer as a token of its appreciation, she says.

Proceeds from the cookies, which Girl Guides first started selling in Saskatchewan in 1927, will fund the national program’s activities.

Girl Guides of Canada is the largest organization for girls and women. It is part of the National Guiding Association, which is known mainly for honing the domestic and survival skills of its members.

"Girl Guides continues to be a safe place where girls can focus on exciting activities that help them become the best they can be. Along with the camaraderie of special friendships, girls and young women involved in Guiding develop leadership and life skills and have opportunities for international travel and to further their education with scholarships," says Nisha Lewis, Marketing and Media Relations Girl Guides of Canada.
