Woman jumps off balcony
An incident involving the Penticton RCMP is being investigated by an independent team of investigators.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) deployed five investigators to the Peach City Wednesday to investigate an officer-involved incident resulting in serious injuries.
The incident occurred this past Friday when officers responded to a 911 call concerning an adult female in emotional distress.
While engaged with police, the woman jumped from a residential balcony and sustained serious injuries. She is currently in hospital in the Lower Mainland.
RCMP made the IIO aware of the incident Tuesday.
The IIO was established through changes to the Police Act passed in the Legislature a year ago. It became fully operational earlier this month.
Once the investigation is complete the Chief Civilian Director will determine if an offence may have occurred and, if so, will refer the case to Crown Counsel. If not a public report will be released relating to the investigation.
