Inmate pleads with judge to be moved

The BC man accused of killing a Princeton woman last November, again pleaded with a judge to move him from the North Fraser Pretrial Center on Tuesday.

Roger Badour, 64, appearing by video in a Penticton court room, told Judge Gregory Koturbash he couldn't take staying at the institution for much longer.

"Please help me judge," he said. "The doctor was supposed to see me Sunday, because my leg is all puffed up and the guy who brought me down here said I would get it on the other leg. These people are trying to kill me."

Last week Badour asked the same judge to move him to a new location, because other inmates have died at North Fraser and he fears he will be next.

Defence lawyer James Pennington said he has tried to get his client moved, but he is considered a prisoner who needs to be in segregation, and the segregation unit at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre is full.

"I can advise if he stays there longer, there will be delays in the preliminary inquiry," he said. "If he is in Kamloops I can call him there and within an hour or two get a call back. At North Fraser I have to send a fax."

Koturbash suggested the way around the situation would be adjourning Tuesday's trial confirmation hearing to Sept. 17, just priory to the inquiry slated to start Sept. 19.

That way he could stay in Kamloops initially, then in Penticton cells during his court appearances.

Pennington agreed with the plan saying anything would be better than North Fraser.

Badour is charged with first degree murder in the death of 56-year-old Gisele Duckham.

He was arrested Nov. 8, 2011 after he was stopped for a traffic violation on Penticton's Main Street.

After obstructing police by providing a false name, officers searched his vehicle and discovered three firearms , two of them loaded, along with a small amount of marijuana, according to Castanet news reports.

Police officers later found Duckham's body at her Princeton home. It was confirmed she died from gunshot wounds.
