RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says Hwy 97 is currently partially closed and restricted to single alternating lanes of traffic due to a serious two vehicle collision involving a truck and fifth wheel trailer and a passenger vehicle.
Lane restrictions with an alternating traffic pattern are in place at the scene just north of Penticton at the Sage Mesa area to permit the collision investigation.
The duration of lane restrictions undetermined at this time.
"We ask that the motoring public exercise caution while using the restricted lanes in the area of the collision and limit their speed to ensure the safety of emergency personnel and road crews who are currently attending to the collision, traffic is moving but very slowly," Cpl Dan Moskaluk.
While details are limited, Moskaluk says a compact size Honda sedan was southbound on highway 97 when it veered into the northbound lane into the path of a truck and fifth wheel trailer unit.
The lone female occupant and driver of the Honda was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the trucking unit was able to get out of the truck with lesser injuries after his rig had plunged into the lake.
