The South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls (SORCO) released a Great Horned Owl in Kelowna recently after it received months of care in their Vaseux Lake facility.
After falling from its nest last March, the owlet was rescued and nurtured by SORCO so it could be released back into the wild.
Naturalists and photographers gathered to witness the young raptor take to the sky to make its new home in the area. It was released in a forested area where there will be an abundant food supply. The owl can be expected to live 20 years thriving on the area's abundant supply of mice and voles.
In this new habitat it will play an integral role in maintaining a healthy and rich biodiversity in the Valley.
SORCO is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation & release of injured and orphaned birds of prey.
