It was a first for Summerland Council Tuesday night, as they sat down with the Penticton Indian Band Council to get acquainted.
Mayor Janice Perrino says it's been a long time coming.
“It was a really special experience to be with our neighbours and talk to them about what they go through and the similarities are really there. We all kept laughing at each other because we all had the same issues, civic issues, federal issues, provincial issues. It's good to work together,” says Perrino.
Also on the meeting's agenda was a new logo for the town.
“I wanted to let the public know that they are going to be seeing a new logo on our municipal vehicles as well as on the signs at the north and the south coming into Summerland and on our letterhead. It's quite a bit different, but I'll leave that as a bit of a surprise.”
She says there was also a letter distributed to residents.
“All around our district people will have gotten a letter from the municipality about responsible water use for both domestic and agricultural use. It's a two page letter and it's just about the cold winter and how there wasn't a lot of snow pack, so we are trying to conserve our water as much as possible.”
