AGSO Appraisal Day

That old piece of junk in your attic could be worth something after all.

The Art Gallery of the South Okanagan is holding its first appraisal day on June 14 starting at 4 p.m.

AGSO curator, Paul Crawford, says for $20, residents can bring three items down to the gallery to be professional appraised.

“We have three people specializing in different art forms to do the appraisals. One will look at jewelry , silver and general antiques, another will look at First Nations art and artifacts, Asian art and antiquities,” says Crawford.

He says this is also an opportunity for local artists to have their work looked at.

“Calgary artist Doug Levis will be on hand and will look at people’s work and tell them how much it might sell for at an auction,” says Crawford.

He says the appraisal day is part of a two-day fundraiser for the gallery.

“The day after the appraisals, we are holding our 30th annual art auction. This year we have more than 100 pieces of art from artists both local and international,” says Crawford.

He says the donated works are currently on display at the AGSO and absentee bids can be left at the gallery until 5 p.m. June 15 or online at www.levisauctions.com

“This is a unique opportunity to acquire significant works or art by both local and nationally recognized artists who have donated major works in support of the AGSO and our ongoing programming. Tickets for this major event are $65 for gallery members $75 for non-members, and seating is limited to 250,” says Crawford.

To reserve your place in advance for the appraisal day, or if you have a larger collection and would like to arrange a home visit, please call the gallery at (250) 492-2928.
