Local builders staying busy

Penticton’s construction industry continues to hum along well ahead of last year.

The City of Penticton has issued building permits worth $133 million this year so far through to the end of August. That’s well ahead of $112 million during the same time frame last year.

So far this year, 252 multi-family units worth $62M have been approved. Last year 220 units worth $40M were approved in the same time period.  Construction of commercial units is also up.

Twenty-eight new single family homes have been approved, compared to 76 last year.

The record for single-year building permits is $198 million, set in 2016 during the construction of the new hospital tower, Lakeside Resort tower and Cascades Casino.
