Big cat caught in driveway

"That's an awful big cat!"

That's what Penticton resident Rod Moubray thought to himself when he checked the overnight security camera footage for his Johnson Road property Thursday morning.

He is used to seeing deer, neighbourhood cats and even a recurring family of racoons, but a bobcat or lynx — it's hard to tell which it might have been — was a new experience.

"It was 2:30 in the morning, my security camera picked it up," Moubray said. "And there it was! You never know what shows up on the security camera."

He posted the footage to a local social media group, and comments started pouring in that others had spotted the big guy in the area.

As a former hunter, Moubray had seen plenty of lynx and bobcats in the wild, but after 40 years of living in the same spot this was his first sighting in the neighbourhood.

"It's quite surprising to see them in the area, where we are pretty much all the orchards are all gone and they are putting in vineyards, so it's pretty surprising that he would come through the yard like that," Moubray said.
