Racecars fund Jumpstart

If you take part in a race at the Penticton Speedway this weekend, you will also have the chance to help fund a program aimed at helping kids of all abilities and economic backgrounds to have a chance to participate in sports.

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program provides funds for local communities looking to help children who may not have access to sport and recreation.

The Penticton program has already had a $16,689 boost this year raised by local Canadian Tire owner Lorraine MacMillan, who participated in a fundraising trek through the Yukon with women from around the nation for five days and 80 kilometres.

That total was added to by the Penticton Speedway Foundation to the tune of $1,717, and proceeds from the track's 50/50 draw this weekend will also be donated.

Friday's Flying Destruction event was cancelled due to rain, but the Speedway is making up for it Saturday night with a double destruction event — "The biggest, baddest destruction event ever!"

The Speedway events start at 7 p.m. Saturday and proceeds from the 50/50 draw will go toward Jumpstart.
