Fire camp dismantled

Just a handful of firefighters remain at the Eagle Bluff wildfire north of Oliver.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has been demobilizing this week and breaking down the camp at the Oliver airport that previously housed hundreds of crew members and support staff.

As of Thursday morning, just nine firefighters remained assigned to the blaze, which is not expected to grow beyond its 2,632 hectare size. Those crew members are mostly patrolling for hot spots.

Just the north flank of the fire, well away from structures, remains active. Crews are taking a “modified response” to the fire, as it is smouldering in inoperable terrain. The fire is being monitored by cameras and ground patrols. Containment lines have been secured around the fire.

An area restriction around the fire site will remain in place until August 30.
