Fires east of Osoyoos

Three fires, believed to have been lightning-caused, are currently burning in in forests east of Osoyoos.

One of the three, the Bighorn Point fire near the border with Washington State, is considered held.

Fire information officer Tracy MacDonald says the other two, Long Joe Creek, and on the north side on Anarchist Mountain, are still considered out of control.

MacDonald says none of the fires have reached a hectare in size.

She says nine BC Wildfire Service firefighters have been dispatched along with air tankers.

They are working alongside local fire crews from the South Okanagan.

An electrical storm passing through the valley late Monday afternoon appears to have sparked some fires in the South Okanagan.

According to BC Wildfire Service social media accounts, multiple lightning-caused wildfires have broken out east of Osoyoos.

"BCWS personnel and air tankers are currently responding in conjunction with the local fire department," the service stated on Twitter.

There have been no specific locations identified on on the BCWS website.

Castanet will be more information once it becomes available.

The storm moved north, with several reports of lightning in the North Okanagan as well.
