New day at the OSA

The Okanagan School of the Arts has a new face at the helm after Robin Robertson resigned her post on May 16 after just a few months in the role.

Board member Keith MacIntyre was chosen as new president, part of many changes and new strategies taking place at the OSA.

"Since receiving the grant from the City at the end of March we have been moving forward with our strategic plan," the board wrote in a press release. "Working with Purppl, our social media enterprise mentor, we have a plan that will allow us to fulfull our mandage as an arts society as well as make the most of the treasured building that we have been entrusted with over the last several years and into the future."

The OSA received a $47,000 bail out from the city, and is attempting to move forward with increased public engagement and interest.

"What many people don't know is that the Shatford Centre is open to the public," reads the release. "While we don't currently have an art show displayed, throughout the year there is almost always local art on the walls."

They are also actively looking for long and short-term tenants in their rental spaces.

"We are looking for small businesses that want to help grow the community in the Shatford Centre and help bring life into the building during the day," they write.

Also available are rooms for rent for events by the hour or day, like the 200-seat auditorium, galleria area and commercial kitchen.

Upcoming events include Indigenous Day on Friday, June 21 and Will Schlackl's Rock Skool Camp for kids for two weeks in July.

"We've learned a lot over the last several months and our focus is on utilizing the building as best we can and providing an excellent customer service experience," they write. "We will be engaging our members more in the coming months, gathering feedback from the community and looking for help from volunteers."

They are currently seeking members to fill three open board seats, as well as looking for a full-time executive director/general manager and part-time operations coordinator. Information for those jobs will be found here soon and resumes can be emailed to [email protected]
