While investigators have released the two main scenes in Monday’s quadruple homicide, two more homes are now behind police tape.
The home of Kathy Brittain, the ex-wife of alleged shooter John Brittain, is now behind police tape. The residence at 2429 Cornwall Drive is across the street from one of the two primary crime scenes — the homes of victims Susan and Barry Wonch and Darlene Knippelberg.
Rudi Winter lived directly next door to Kathy Brittain, but was shot pruning a tree on Lakeview Street. The scene of Winter’s shooting on Lakeview — centered on the front yard of a duplex at the corner of Heales Ave. — has been released by investigators, but another nearby home, 184 Lakeview, is now behind police tape. That taped-off home is believed to be tied to John Brittain.
However, neighbours on Cornwall Street say John Brittain spent much of his time at his ex-wife’s home, although often leaving at night.
One of Winter’s family members has said they had been in a long-running neighbours dispute with Kathy Brittain. The City of Penticton told CTV News it has dealt with several complaints between the Winters and a neighbour, but would not elaborate.
Police say a motive in the shooting remains under investigation.
