Peachfest needs new float

The City of Penticton is pitching in $10,000 to retrofit the Peach Festival’s parade float.

The float, which travelled to 28 parades this year, is being revamped at an estimated total cost of $30,000.

The Peach Festival Society and Travel Penticton will be funding the other $20,000.

Peach Fest president Don Kendall says a few of the parades the float participates in, such as the Calgary Stampede, requires proof that the float has been redone every three years to allow entry.

The current float design has a boat breaking through waves and towing a parasailing peach. No word on what the new design will entail.

Council unanimously approved the grant Tuesday.
