Thieves ransack yacht club

The Penticton Yacht Club was hit by thieves over the weekend, resulting in the theft and damage to several moored boats.

The break-and-enter occurred sometime overnight and was reported Sunday, according to Const. James Grandy of the Penticton RCMP.

“The suspects stole various items from numerous boats moored there,” he said in an email.

One of the victims tells Castanet the thieves broke into the club’s offices and stole a key card to access the slips. Once behind the locked gate, the suspects stole items and damaged several boats. Valuable gear such as electronics was taken in some cases.

Nobody from the yacht club’s board was immediately available for comment. The marina manager deferred comment to the board.

Const. Grandy says the investigation into the thefts continues.
