The locally-loved Granny's Fruit Stand in Summerland is up for sale.
The well-known produce market and bakery on Highway 97 also includes a cherry orchard and family home that has a pool and private yard on the property. It's listed for $1.5 million.
Granny's was founded in 1992 by Don Cameron — who was Summerland's mayor from 1993 to 2002, and his late wife. The couple sold the property in 2013 to Trevor Brown, who lives in the home with his wife, Meghan, and two children.
Brown and his wife also own Whitetail Construction, which they started in 2017, and they work in commercial property management as well. Before the couple moved to Summerland, Brown operated a Lower Mainland construction company but broke his back in 2010 and was unable to continue working in the industry. He had a surgery to put prosthetic implants in his back last year, however, which enabled him to get back into it.
"We'd love to be able to keep (Granny's), but we just can't put the time and effort that it deserves to have. So we're hoping that someone who buys it will be able to love it like we have and take over it," Brown said.
"It's a completely turnkey business. It has everything it needs, we're selling it with everything. Including the Granny's secret pie recipes," he added. "Hopefully someone comes in and keeps running it."
Derek Lutz, a lifelong Summerland resident whose family has farmed there for more than 50 years, has leased Granny's since June of 2013. According to the sales listing, he hopes to continue to manage the fruit stand if the property changes hands.
Granny's is open daily between early June and late October, offering fresh produce as well as jams and ice cream, among other selections. The sales listing calls it a "long-standing fixture" that is "a popular hub for both locals and tourists."
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom family home on the property is said to be one of the oldest homes in Summerland. It was built in 1910, according to BC Assessment.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid a visit to the market when he visited the area in August.
