All evacuation alerts lifted

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has lifted all remaining evacuation alerts related to the wildfires outside Keremeos.

Local states of emergency in areas B and G have also been rescinded.

The widespread alerts were in place in and around Cathedral Provincial Park and along the Ashnola Forest Service Road.

The BC Wildfire Service announced Tuesday that all three major wildfires in the Similkameen — Cool Creek, Snowy Mountain and Old Tom — have been classified as “held.”

The classification means crews will not expect the fires to grow beyond containment lines.

Some alpine areas in the Similkameen, particularly in the Snowy Mountain Protected area, received a bit a snow Tuesday. Crews have said the three fires may burn well into the fall until winter smothers them.

The three fires burned a combined 32,600 hectares of bush this summer.
