Tennis Bubble Last Days

Game, set, match.

The Penticton tennis bubble is scheduled to come down sometime next week to make room for the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Former tennis captain for the Penticton Yacht and Tennis Club, Dennis Hoffart, says the facility will be missed.

"Over 300 people play regularly at the bubble, and when it's gone they will have nowhere to play tennis this winter. It has always been very important to the tennis community," says Hoffart.

He says lessons and tournaments that usually take place over the winter have been canceled for this year.

"We have three tournaments that we wouldn't be able to have this year and lots of youth programs have been suspended indefinitely until the new facility is up and running," says Hoffart.

He says he hopes the new tennis court will be ready in a timely fashion.

"The city has promises to rebuild it on the 16 acres of Queens Park and we have to trust they will do as they say. Our biggest concern is how long it could take with construction delays and so on," says Hoffart.
