Penticton paddlers prevail

Two dragon boat teams from Penticton placed well while competing at the Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival last weekend.

The Peach City Dragons finished third among mixed teams, earning a team-record time in the 500-metre sprint at 1:56.

Meanwhile, The Despirit Housewives came in fourth among the 14 women's teams taking part.

"Racing downstream, on the Thompson River, meant fast starts and turbulence from currents. The Peach City Dragons and Despirit Housewives took on the challenge, both placing into the top finals!" Thyra Carroll with the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival said.

"Way to represent Penticton!"

The Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival originated after the Kamloops Senior Games in 2013, and now takes place annually along the Thompson River near Riverside Park in the city's downtown.
