Snowy Mtn. fire being 'held'

Nearly a month after lightning sparked the Snowy Mountain wildfire near Keremeos, fire crews aren't expecting the blaze to grow any further.

The 13,359-hectare fire is now classified as "held" by the BC Wildfire Service. There continues to be 26 personnel and two helicopters battling the blaze.

The fire, which began on July 17, affected some properties and impacted outbuildings, but no homes have been lost.

Snowy Mountain is the largest wildfire currently burning in the Okanagan and anywhere in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

While fire activity have dipped off in the Okanagan since mid July, the same can't be said for B.C. as a whole. A provincial state of emergency was declared on Wednesday morning, with more than 550 wildfires currently burning.
